Boston: A Love Letter*

September always feels like New Years to me. Twelve years ago this week I came here for my undergraduate studies and never left. So recently I took a moment this morning to reflect on this place I call home...

Noteable things not included on this sketchbook page: eating at JFK's table at the Union Oyster House, the guy who walks his pig in the Boston Common, how utterly awful the Green line is all the time, getting cheap margaritas and endless free chips and salsa at Border Cafe, browsing the lot at the Brattle Book Shop, the the time I saw cops drag a body out of the Charles River, ginko trees turning golden on Church St, seeing the Rolling Stones play at Fenway, running through the halls of the MFA at midnight after watching a special viewing of Christian Marclay's "The Clock," Tea at the Taj, the man who planted sunflowers every year on the corner in my old neighborhood...

*I live in Cambridge, which of course is not Boston...but both cities are have equal places in my heart and memories.

"We began as neighbors at the studio in the MFA program at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts. In the first year our paths crossed frequently in courses, lectures, and critique. Out of frustration in the studio during the summer we began to work collaboratively on a small-scale book. We both enjoyed the process and it laid the foundation to work collaboratively on books, prints, and drawings during our final year in the program. We decided to show together for our thesis not only because of the collaborative work, but also because our sensibilities and visual language compliment each other. Fragments, memory, and the duality of presence and absence are all strong elements in both our work.

Showing together continues the collaboration we have inside and outside of the studio. There are distinct voices in both bodies of work, but together they engage in a conversation about constructing the fragments of memory and observation into something new. "

Friday Inspiration: Looking Up

Summer seems to have arrived. It's perfect weather to walk everywhere and sleep with the windows open. I love summer in the city.

In my recent wanderings I noticed these fluttering flocks of birds strung across intersections in Cambridge. The are a temporary art installation by Carolina Aragon.

Another 11th hour post. At least I have a good excuse. Late night conversation over a divine cup of hot chocolate at L.A. Burdick on Brattle Street. Haven't been there in months. It's very decadent. The hot chocolate tastes like a melted chocolate bar. Also indulged in their petits macarons. They were out of my favorite lavender, so raspberry it was.

A rather sweet end to Tuesday.
