From the Archives

At the Alexander Calder show at the Whitney they had a "self portrait" by Calder at age 9. I thought it was remarkable that it survived, and was amused that they included it in the exhibition.

I was back home this weekend and went digging around in the archives and came across some "early work."

Enjoy.

This one is quite epic. And I am almost certain it was inspired by Disney's Fantasia, which I loved as a child.

In case you were wondering, it is obviously a herd of Centaurs. Seriously.

I think this one is a nice example of an early attempt to "mat" my work. Also note the mermaid's bra. Actually, now that I see the hair color this is most certainly Ariel from The Little Mermaid.

Both are age 4ish?
