The ibis was revered in ancient Egypt and is the symbol of the god Thoth, the creator of magic and the inventor of writing. He is thought to have created himself through the power of language.

There is something calligraphic about the skull of an ibis.

Eighteen

Today is an anniversary of sorts, I started this blog two years ago. I honestly don't know why. But it has been a valuable outlet for my current work and state of mind.

On a sidenote...it snowed today. I couldn't believe it.

As a diptych?

They weren't intentionally a pair. They were actually created in tangent. But they have been sitting next to each other on my work table and it seems natural.

I'm conscious of the fact that my work has been focusing on anatomy, specifically bones. I am intrigued by the structural forms of the skeleton. And I have always been drawn to fragments and pieces rather than the whole. I tend to break things down in my mind when I look at them. I find the pieces more interesting. More elemental.
