Kenmore Square

An 8th floor balcony view of Kenmore Square and the famous Citgo sign. I began the drawing on a single sheet and expanded outwards continuously onto 2 more sheets.

The final size is approximately 9 x 18," pen on graph paper.

Click the image above for a larger view.

A detail. This was the 2nd sheet of paper I spilled over onto. I love the scaffolding on the Citgo sign.

A detail of the first part of the drawing. I would constantly loose my place in the image. There is an overwhelming density to the line.

Summer Palette

I couldn't resist these tomatoes (and cherries and fresh spinach) at the farmers market today.

A beginning of summer/studio playlist:

Heart of My Own / Basia Bulat
Go Do / Jónsi
Stop for a Minute / Keane
Heartbeats / The Knife
Tightrope / Yeasayer
Prickly Thorn, but Sweetly Worn / The White Stripes
I'm Not Drowning / Steve Winwood
Waiting on a Friend / The Rolling Stones
Sweet Jane / Velvet Underground
Simple Man / Graham Nash

Congress Street Stikman

I crossed paths with a familiar friend this weekend on Congress Street (on my way to a delicious coffee date at Flour Bakery).

And discovered a sculptural Stikman not far from the flat one.

Sketchbook No. 11

I finished Sketchbook No. 11 (sequentially it is actually No. 14, but never mind that...)

From the beginning I approached this sketchbook differently. I began to look at the pages as corresponding, reflecting, or interacting with each other. They were consciously designed as spreads. The resulting sketchbook flows in a way that even I did not foresee. I love it.

You can see the entire sketchbook here.

Now I face the clean white (and daunting) pages of a new sketchbook!

Life and life only

I'm still here.

I know my postings have been rather sparse lately. I got thrown a bit of a curve ball recently. I found salvation in Sherlock Holmes, the Rolling Stones, copious amounts of espresso, and good people. I am now finding my footing again.

Summer is here in the city and I am grateful. Time to get back on track.

What's on the agenda?
1. Making books
2. Putting together my portfolio for grad school
3. New sketchbook!
4. Sketching around Boston with my two groups of summer students
5. Revamping my website
6. Backyard bonfires
7. Plenty of Orangina
8. Trip to NYC to see the Picasso exhibit at the Met
9. SoWA Open Market

So, stay tuned...
